There seems to be miscommunication between Uhuru and Ruto

By - - [Politics]

If you listen keenly to political conversations in Kenya, there is a message that President Uhuru Kenyatta seems to be telling his Deputy President William Ruto but the deputy is taking long to get the point. President Uhuru seems to be telling his deputy the following.

1. Kenyan constitution does not provide for co-presidency but it has a president and I am that President. Play your role as deputy and do not confuse the coalition government of 2008/13 with my government. I am firmly in charge of my government and it is not in your place to explain government policy to me.

2. I reached out to you in 2013 and embarked on a reconciliation mission of our people, not to win elections. If it was about winning elections, I would have gone for the more populous luyia nation. Do not step in my was I reach out to the rest of Kenya and unite the country.

3. I gave you an opportunity as deputy Jubilee party leader to demonstrate leadership by building a strong party but instead of building the party, you used the opportunity to sow seeds of discord and plant your own stooges who kept opposing government policy and frustrating government programs. You should be the last person to cry foul when Jubilee Party responds in kind.

4. I embarked on a national mission of uniting the country and reached out to political opponents through handshake but instead of supporting the mission wholeheartedly, you started throwing tantrums and throwing cold water on an initiative very similar to what I had with you in 2013 of uniting the country.

5. While I was doing all in my power to hold the country together, you have been busy tearing it apart with narratives that polarise the country rather than unite it, all for selfish political gain. You claim that you stand with the downtrodden but by your actions and positions on issues, you stand with the belligerent and condone the corrupt who are responsible for consigning Kenyans to poverty.

6. You were elected on Jubilee Party to deliver on the promise that we made to Kenyans but instead of focusing on the agenda you have been busy running around campaigning as though you were out of power. If you have failed to support me in my legacy projects, what makes you think that my support for you come 2022 should be automatic? Which sane leader wakes up and goes to sleep attacking the very government that he is part of and giving flimsy reasons of why support is not given?

7. If our coming together in 2013 so that we could unite our communities was not tribalism, why should a statement that time has come for other communities to also have a taste of national leadership be called tribalism? Is it always going to be about us or about the rest of Kenyans too? Our tow communities have run affairs in Kenya since independence, is it unfair to now begin looking at the other communities in the name of building bridges?
