Governor Mwangaza Apologizes To Meru MCAs And Speaker 70 Times

  • The governor, who was holding public engagements on Ward Fund in Maua, paused midway and asked the pastor present to assist her in apologizing 70 times.

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza chose an unconventional method to apologize to county Members of the County Assembly on Wednesday, just hours after a Meru court barred the impeachment motion against her.

The governor, who was holding public engagements on Ward Fund in Maua, paused midway and asked the pastor present to assist her in apologizing 70 times.

The heartfelt apology was extended to all 69 MCAs as well as the Speaker.

In a video obtained by Citizen.Digital, the governor, who was facing impeachment only three months after her election, can be seen issuing an apology alongside a smattering of locals.

She asked all MCAs to forgive her if she had wronged them and also took advantage of the opportunity to invite them to a meeting to discuss the next steps.

The latest development comes just hours after the Meru High Court suspended the impeachment motion.

According to Justice Wamae Cherere, the Meru County Assembly did not follow proper procedure in initiating the motion.

Mwangaza moved to court last week seeking orders to bar the County Assembly from debating her impeachment motion.

Through her lawyer Elias Mutuma the Governor argued that the publication of the impeachment motion was called and signed by a stranger in the assembly acting as the clerk.

She further told court that the assembly proved to have a predetermined mindset on the impeachment since 68 out of 69 MCAs had approved the motion.

The impeachment motion was tabled by Abogeta West MCA Dennis Kiogora, who also doubles as the Minority Chief Whip on November 21.
